President's
Message
One
of the main changes the computer and the web brought to our lives
was the concept of the world being available to offer a client
the best possible deal. The best not only in terms of prices,
but also in terms of quality. Needless to say, therefore, the
IT revolution has also turned the world into a cosmos full of
incredibly quality-conscious people, people who will settle for
nothing less than world class.
No
single group feels the pressure to live up to the demands for
expected quality as acutely as software professionals do. The
number of qualified software professionals available always falls
short of the demand in the virtual market. A lot is, therefore,
offered to the selected few and lots more is expected of them.
Needless to say, if a particular firm wishes to do even above
average, it has to hunt hard for the best professionals it can
get.
Now
one of the chief difficulties any firm faces is, how does the
management decide which candidate is the best. Most firms offer
basic paper-based tests and select candidates from them based
on their performance. But there are two major problems with this
method. One, it is time consuming, and two, performance in theoretical
tests is no indication of a correspondingly satisfactory performance
in practice.
Quality
testing is today one of the major concerns the IT/corporate industry
faces. Not only for testing new recruits, firms also need to make
sure that their existing employees are equal to the challenges
they set before them, for this would inevitably lead to a compromise
on the quality of both the intake and the output.
New
Horizons Software Incorporated is dedicated to the cause of growth
and sustenance of quality in the software industry, and has been
facing this problem for the past six years. SWcaliber is our answer
to the quality /quantity syndrome. It tests candidates applying
for a position in the subject concerned, and tests both theory
and practice. We do not assume that if a candidate has his facts
at his fingertips, (s)he is also good at applying them. Theory
questions test a candidate's understanding of the subject concerned,
while application oriented questions focus on his/her ability
to apply the concepts involved in real time programming and error
tracking.
Specialized
in developing software tests on the Web, NHSI provides a comprehensive
testing scheme to calibrate the competence and knowledge of software
professionals through SWcaliber. It provides a series of software test modules that can be productively
used by
Corporate
houses, recruiters,and placement
agencies to test the language and programming skills of
aspiring candidates in different software modules before recruiting
them, and of their existing staff as an in-house evaluation.
IT
training centers and educational institutions for in-house and end course evaluation. SWcaliber
has special built-in features that can help employers select
the best candidates from a group of test takers: the best both
in theory and in practice.
In
an age where quality, efficiency, and specialization are the key
words, a test that examines the specific skills of a test taker
can be instrumental in recruiting the candidate who fits the job
requirements best. SWcaliber can be very useful for software training
institutes and educational institutions as well.
We
are also in the process of creating a skill-based database of
job seekers, which will be available to all registered members
for access and reference. Who knows, you might just get the right
person right here!
